Harper the Chef

Is that knife just for cutting up vegetables?

Was his apron red when he bought it?

What country is he from?

These questions and more await you in Detective Grimoire

The overall shape of this chap is based on a character I designed at University; a re-imagining of semi-fictional traveller and botanist, John Mandeville

Also notice how I'm using Lorem ipsum since I used it that one time in that one professional job that I had. It makes everyone look like they're performing some complicated ancient magic spell.

Vincent Van-De-Peer

A successful movie director looking for his next hit, he has come to the swamp to research the area for an upcoming children's movie.

He is very interested in the local....wildlife....

Van-De-Peer gets his surname from a friend of mine who was instrumental in the development of the first Grimoire game.

Movement

In the first Grimoire game, each character had 4 still poses. They were labelled "neutral", "positive", "negative" and "thinking".

This time, characters still have 4 poses each, but they're more unique to the individual. Plus they're animated, a bit. The face will be animated separately.

Agent Folder

As an amateur Paranormal Investigator, he's a teenager with a passion for files, folders, documents, reports, articles - you name it, he has it in his folder.

I thought it would be fun to have a character who is keen to provide Grimoire with information, but make the information dubious and unreliable.

Menu

I was working on a menu today.
We're trying to keep it simple and very easy to use.

Welcome to the Swamp

This Detective Grimoire game is set in a mysterious swamp. A home for some, a day at work for others; its a place hiding more than one or two secrets.

Amazing background art by Catherine.

"Area A"

Catherine and I have been using a quite boring code-name letter for each screen, Area A means this is the first one in the game. It's a dock, of sorts. The basic structure for the game is quite similar to the first - but everything else is different.

Old Friends

Two characters from the original game make an appearance!
They look quite different now, but the same heart beats inside :)

Officer James is sick due to damp air and a poor diet. He won't be much help in the field, but he'll provide the essential information to kick-start your adventure.

Some elements here are still WIP, but we've been putting together all the elements to make a full scene. Catherine's backgrounds are getting along well with my chracters. All we need now is Tom's code!

Everyone's favourite precocious youngster and Grimoire's unofficial second-in-command. She swapped her green dress for something that looks like it came out of the Disney Store. Still fiddling around with her design, it will come together when I try and animate her.

Backgrounds

I've been on a short break so I'll be a bit rude and show a little more of Catherine's amazing work before putting anything else of mine on here :)
